The Citi Cash Back Card is one of our favorite credit cards in Singapore. It gives you a cash back of 6% on Dining and 8% on Groceries with a high monthly cash back cap of S$80. It also offers up to 20.88% off petrol at Esso Stations.
Not only are those are among the best cash back rates for any card in Singapore, they come with no category level sub-caps. You could earn the entire S$80 by using the card just for groceries or split it evenly between eating out, groceries and petrol or any other combination.
Spending on Dining, Groceries and petrol is also likely to be fairly consistent & a major expense month to month for most people. We also find it relatively easy to remember to use the correct card for these categories – anytime you are getting fuel, for your car or for your body, use Citi Cash Back!
All of this means Citi Cash Back card makes it really simple to get a fairly decent cash back every month with relatively low spend. You only need to spend between S$1,000-1,334 in those categories to collect the entire S$80 every month.
You would need to spend nearly S$5,500 on an unlimited cash back card to get that much. There are other cards that give a similarly high cash back rate e.g. UOB EVOL or OCBC Frank but all these cards have lower monthly caps and also category level cash back caps (S$20 & S$25 respectively) which make it difficult to claim to the full cash back every month.
Citi Cash Back is a great 2nd card for people who want to improve their rewards without needing to manage a large number of cards. It pairs really well with a general rewards or cashback card, boosting your rewards without making things very complicated.
There is a just one catch – you need to spend a minimum of S$800 on the card every month, otherwise your cash back rate drops to 0.25%, which is pretty low. So make sure you can clear that bar every month and if you can, this is a great card to have.
