Discontinued: RBL Bank Edition Black Credit Card

The Bottom Line

RBL Bank & Zomato have discontinued the Edition Program. Effective 15 May 2023, the Edition Black and Edition credit cards will automatically convert into the RBL Bank ShopRite Credit Card.

We thought the Edition Black was the best card in India for online food delivery as well as the best credit card from RBL Bank for people charging ₹20,000+ on their cards.

Following this change, we have updated our recommendations. We now recommend the MY ZONE Credit Card from Axis Bank for online food delivery. We no longer recommend any credit card from RBL Bank for high spending customers.

What happens to my Edition Card?

If you currently hold an RBL Bank Edition or Edition Black card, you will also receive a new RBL Bank ShopRite Credit Card by 15th May, which you should start using instead of the Edition / Edition Black.

All Edition Cash you have earned via the Zomato App can be used on the app till 14 May 2023 and all remaining balances will be credited as cashback into your ShopRite credit card by 30th May.

If you pay the annual fee for the Edition cards after 1 May 2023, it will be reversed into your card by 10 May 2023.

We would suggest calling the bank and requesting a refund if you have paid the fee for the Edition or Edition Black in the last 6 months or so.

How good is the replacement card?

The ShopRite Credit Card offers 20 reward points / ₹100 on grocery, 10 points on fuel and 1 point on all other spends. It also offers a 10% discount on movie tickets at BookMyShow.

This translates into a 5% effective reward on grocery, 2.5% on fuel and 0.25% on all other spending.

Overall, we estimate you can earn a net reward yield of 0.6-1.4% on all your spending with this card in a month.

In contrast, the Edition Black had a net reward yield of 1.1 – 1.5%. While not great, this was higher than what you will now earn with the ShopRite.

Due to its very low net reward yield, we do not think the ShopRite is a good replacement for the Edition Black or Edition Cards and people receiving this card should consider options from other banks.
